So if what I write makes you smile, even guiltily if what I say offends, then I've done my job. The cousins are coming! And I am STOKED.<br />
Oh, yes, and there are a gazillion ultra-talented soccer players from all over the world here in Ottawa for the next two weeks - and they are all WOMEN! Yeah - #girlpower! Here's a question - why on earth is the Women's World Cup considered inferior to the men's competition? Hmmm? It's astounding, really.<br />
<br />
Here's a photo of the lovely Thailand team. They were so fun to watch, even though they did go overboard on the "I need a stretcher!"<br />

Well, that must be the day I abandoned blogging for Facebook. Please forgive me. I think I am back - with my snarky take on life and love in Canada! My hope, as always, is to inspire you, make you smile or laugh, and basically to just sprinkle kindness all over you. YOU are amazing.<br />

You're welcome.<br />

What they <i>should</i> have said was that there may not be the usual vivid, jewel toned panorama that takes your breath away, but the glory of autumn can be found in smaller doses, as long as you open your eyes to it. </p> <p>For me, autumn is one young sugar maple tree; barely twenty feet tall in my yard. That one tree will turn an amazing rainbow of colours for me. It will make me wonder yet again how a green tree can turn so many different shades of red, peach, gold and orange.</p> <p>Then one leaf will fall, and my attitude will change. Two leaves and my muscles shake. Three and the bottle of Advil rolls towards me. A heady gust of wind comes and just like that, the trees are nearly naked and my rake is banging itself against the shed door, dying to come out and play. This must be why autumn is also called <i>fall</i>. This is where the glory of autumn ends for me.</p> <p>After waiting as long as I possibly can to put off this chore, I make it out to the shed. The door creaks eerily as I open it. My hair blows around my face as the wind kicks up again. I turn and watch more leaves fall. I look back at my rake and cringe. It growls at me, hungry for exercise. I put on my gloves. The rake jumps up in anticipation, shaking off the cobwebs of a quiet month or two. </p> <p>I look at the wooden handle, so eager to be in my hands. “Now listen,” I sternly tell my rake. “I’ve got only so much muscle power, patience and skin thickness on my hands. As soon as I reach the end of my play list on my MP3 player, you’re going back in the shed, got it?” The rake jumps into my hand in acquiescence of my rules. I plug in my earphones, press play and let the rake drag me unwillingly to the back yard.</p> <p>When looking at an expanse of lawn the size of ours, with the gorgeous trees dropping thousands of leaves, I feel helpless. Where do I start? Should I do a pattern? A bunch of small piles? Is that my phone ringing? Is someone here? Maybe I’d better go check. The rake begs to differ and digs its tines into the dirt. Fine. </p> <p>I plough ahead and groove to the tunes plugged into my ears. I make it fun, dancing as I rake for what seems like days, and only when my arms scream for a break do I stop. I am proud. My pile is huge. I turn around and realize I’ve barely started. I sigh. The wind blows. The leaves fall again. My pile scatters and the rake laughs. I’m done for now, because tomorrow I have to go buy a new rake.</p> <p> </p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:a7ffe8da-615b-491c-9b0b-ecc7dc17f742" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Flickr Tags: <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/autumn" rel="tag">autumn</a>,<a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/fall" rel="tag">fall</a>,<a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/leaves" rel="tag">leaves</a>,<a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/fall+colours" rel="tag">fall colours</a>,<a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/rake" rel="tag">rake</a>,<a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/laughter" rel="tag">laughter</a>,<a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/funny" rel="tag">funny</a>,<a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/life+Lessons" rel="tag">life Lessons</a>,<a href="http://flickr.com/photos/tags/random" rel="tag">random</a></div> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09198043812793861298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5052645765261724946.post-60511256476803422172012-06-18T18:53:00.001-04:002012-06-18T18:53:20.259-04:00Someone Asked My Advice. . . What Would You Say?<p>So an acquaintance asked me if I expected my husband to reply “I love you” after I’ve said it first.</p> <p>I had to think about a moment because, at first, I thought ”Hell yeah he’d better reply with an I love you MORE.” But then, after another millisecond (because that’s how fast my brain works, y’all), I said “No.”</p> <p>“Why?” She asked.</p> <p>Whenever I say I love you to my man, it’s because I am <em>feeling </em>it, you know? When my heart, head and soul collide in a warm-fuzzy moment is when I love you comes out. And I hope that’s when he says I love you to me, too.</p> <p>Of course, the reality is, he’d better say it back, damn skippy.</p> <p>What’s your take?</p> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09198043812793861298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5052645765261724946.post-3612727678649483692012-04-23T16:20:00.001-04:002012-04-23T16:22:28.849-04:00From The Secret Daily Teachings<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="text-align: center;"><tbody>

So when my husband Peter read from the morning paper that a new show <a href="http://www.nbc.com/fashion-star/">Fashion Star</a> was premiering, I thought I’d check it out.</p> <p>We’re about 15 minutes in and I have to say I am loving the concept.</p> <p>Hosted by Elle MacPherson (check out the <a href="http://www.nbc.com/fashion-star/">promo shot on the NBC Website</a>. Not sure it’s her best.) Nicole Ritchie, Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos (all having successful fashion lines themselves) are mentors to all the designers.</p> <p>Up-and-coming, yet unknown designers send their one signature piece in three  different looks down the runway.</p> <p>The models are generic enough that it’s easy to focus on the designs. The lighting and production values are pretty fabulous as well, almost to the point of cheesiness. Fashion show dancers? <em>Really</em>? Somebody pass the crackers.</p> <p>Macy’s, Saks and H&M sit on the panel as buyers. Once the designers are brought onto the stage, the fashion mentors give their opinions on the designs. Then the cameras turn to the retail buyers.</p> <p>Now here’s where it gets exciting. </p> <p>The designers sometimes insult the mentors. One guy tells Jessica Simpson that if she knew anything about fashion she would know his stuff is fashion forward.</p> <p>NO OFFER x 3</p> <p>The designers sometimes get snarky with the buyers. One designer tells Saks that he didn’t feel like putting forth his best design effort until next week. </p> <p>NO OFFER x 3</p> <p>The designers, mostly starving, wait for real offers from the buyers. The buyers will either submit ‘no offer’, or what they are willing to pay for that design.</p> <p>In the first 15 minutes, a bartender with a fantastic skirt made $80,000 with Saks. Her designs will be available within the year at the store. </p> <p>So cool.</p> <p>If a designer receives a “NO Offer”, they are up for elimination. Eventually, they will pare 16 down to 1 designer, who will then win a $6,000,000 contract.</p> <p>Though the <em>fromage</em> runs thick on the production values of the show I enjoy watching the designers. I also really enjoy pretending I know as much as the buyers and will calmly nod or shake my head in agreement with decisions. </p> <p>It’s so fun to armchair judge.</p> <p>Fashion Star provides instant gratification as well because the designs are already complete, thereby eliminating the sometimes tiresome creation process of other shows.</p> <p>Opinions?</p> <p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:253e1e05-a129-4aa1-8ae9-862e2742f8bb" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent"><div id="1cf1aa8e-39e3-4ae9-bf2c-4456c9deb3c4" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; display: inline;"><div><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MniH-emPFJg" target="_new"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-0x7XESQ0z-w/T2AAWFep1nI/AAAAAAAADEE/XH3mE8Qsgaw/video408ae540fa7f%25255B40%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('1cf1aa8e-39e3-4ae9-bf2c-4456c9deb3c4'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "<div><object width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/MniH-emPFJg?hl=en&hd=1\"><\/param><embed src=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/MniH-emPFJg?hl=en&hd=1\" type=\"application/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>";" alt=""></a></div></div></div> </p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:53b2f1a8-a3b1-4b8e-8e69-286497fba471" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/fashion+star" rel="tag">fashion star</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/fashion" rel="tag">fashion</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/entertainment" rel="tag">entertainment</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/NBC" rel="tag">NBC</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/reality+television" rel="tag">reality television</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Fashion+Star+Review" rel="tag">Fashion Star Review</a></div> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09198043812793861298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5052645765261724946.post-50698460455026667662012-03-05T18:01:00.001-05:002012-03-05T18:01:09.618-05:00From The Secret Daily Teachings<p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-QI4iHk_VNpE/T1VFsowltxI/AAAAAAAADD0/mjypvk-5z48/s1600-h/IMG_1683%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_1683" border="0" alt="IMG_1683" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-6NL14Rw7oiw/T1VFtBp2n7I/AAAAAAAADD8/ZThaRqKi9wg/IMG_1683_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="393" height="302" /></a></p> <p>“Whatever feelings you have within you are attracting your tomorrow.</p> <p>Worry attracts more worry. It’s in my blood. It’s always half-full and things are always great and can only go downhill if I allow them to. It happens sometimes. </p> <p>Sometimes, I just want to lift my middle finger high in the air for all to see, just so they know I feel, how cranky I am that my life isn’t as sunny as I’d like it to be.</p> <p>But here’s the rub. Beyond the middle finger, sometimes I am so perplexed by human behaviour that it makes me want to cry – because there is nothing I can do about it.</p> <p>What can I do about the high school kids that think so little of life that a gun and death to others are the only answer? What can I do or say to the parents that don’t know their kids at all – that can let their kids go so far into the dark that they would take their own lives?</p> <p>What can I do when this happens again and again through history?</p> <p>What can we do?</p> <p>What can I do about the tornadoes that take lives? What can I do about toddlers ripped from their mother's arms only to die, cold and broken miles away?</p> <p>What can I do when the whole nation mourns Whitney Houston (as I did), but doesn’t mourn the domestic violence in our world, the poverty, the war, the genocide and starvation?</p> <p>How can I get through to the people that hate a president but won’t give him a chance to make the change the U.S. so desperately needs?</p> <p>Monday blues, that’s what it is. I am weeping for a world I feel helpless to change, yet my corner of the planet is a wonderful, blessed life where my biggest complaint is that there is  nothing good on television.</p> <p>What can we do?</p> <p> </p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:cf56d51d-9386-41ac-a2c2-6a153ed77c3a" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">Technorati Tags: <a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Whitney+Houston" rel="tag">Whitney Houston</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Obama" rel="tag">Obama</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/High+School+Shooting" rel="tag">High School Shooting</a>,<a href="http://technorati.com/tags/Tornadoes" rel="tag">Tornadoes</a></div> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09198043812793861298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5052645765261724946.post-85266637576265398502012-02-28T23:34:00.000-05:002012-02-28T23:34:12.822-05:00Crap, It's Tuesday<div style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f6saUQxhkUc/T02qw_3g3BI/AAAAAAAADDs/L9B29uEE_Yk/s1600/Top-1.bmp.jpg"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f6saUQxhkUc/T02qw_3g3BI/AAAAAAAADDs/L9B29uEE_Yk/s400/Top-1.bmp.jpg" /></a> </div><div style='clear:both; text-align:CENTER'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09198043812793861298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5052645765261724946.post-16441848260021079352012-02-27T22:14:00.000-05:002012-02-27T22:14:06.114-05:00Monday's Good Things. But the boredom of self-imposed house confinement makes the deep, belly-rubbing snow look like it might be kind of fun to her. Add a little false-warming sunshine and Wick is outta the house to play.</p> <p>When Wick steps out of the house, the first thing she does is shake the snow from her front paws. Then she licks them and puts them back on the icy ground. And then wonders why she can’t move.</p> <p>Once she’s thawed her paws, she jumps off the patio to the snow below, staying close to the house where the snow isn’t so deep. But a fluttery leaf grabs her attention as it rolls across the stark white landscape towards the forest and she chases it, landing neck deep in the snow with each leap. She stops and starts stepping more carefully, as if realizing that her weight won’t sink so far in the snow if she doesn’t jump in it. Smart kitty.</p> <p>Then a random woodpecker, at the very top of a 50-foot tree grabs Wick’s attention. Uh oh. I know our cat. She’s going for it.</p> <p>She dives towards the trunk of the leafless tree, scrambling up about eight feet to do some reconnaissance from the roof of a bird house nailed to the side of the elm. She looks up – way up, and spots her plaything.</p> <p>The woodpecker is oblivious, but can’t seem to get what he wants from the frozen tree. He jumps to another branch, and Wick climbs another 20 feet. Oy. That’s bravery.</p> <p>Our cat is now at least 30 feet in the air and I’m having visions of firefighters dancing through my brain.</p> <p>As she perches on a precarious-looking branch, I open the back door and ask her how she plans on getting down. She glances at me for just a moment before making a dangerous hop to another branch that bends despite her light weight. She looks skyward once more and finds her potential toy has flown away in search of less-frozen branches.</p> <p>Now little Miss Wick has to get her furry behind down the tree, that too-tall, stick-straight tree where she is looking down from her 30-foot-high throne. Great. I call Peter and tell him to have a look. He wisely tells me not to worry – she got up there, she’ll get down.</p> <p>And down she comes. Like she’s sliding down a fireman’s pole, using her claws as she backs herself down to the birdhouse perch that started the whole ascension into the sky. She jumps from the birdhouse to the ground, and comes leaping back to the warmth and safety of the house. </p> <p>She meows at me a few times, as if asking if I saw her, what I thought, and too-bad-I-scared-you-but-I-would-do-it-again-you-gutless-human.</p> <p>Sure, do it again, Wick. But wait until spring or summer when the leaves hide your bravery. Until then, please, kitty kat – you’re aging me. Stay bored! It’s much easier on us humans.</p> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09198043812793861298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5052645765261724946.post-43164185806225685882011-09-16T18:12:00.001-04:002011-09-16T18:12:27.460-04:00Now Here’s a Teaser That Made Me Click . . .<p>The year's best police report stars an alleged hooker, an undercover vice cop, his rubber phallus, and an opossum crossing the road. You will be astounded. Even my husband, who always just says “so what, it’s a phone,” said “now that’s pretty cool.”</p> <p>I downloaded the product on the recommendation of a Rogers employee and simply can’t believe how intuitive this input method is. Even on testing the software on the employee’s phone, I swyped “What the heck is this madness?” and it entered it perfectly. </p> <p>Madness is what it is, it’s so cool. It’s a free download in Beta form – and so far it works perfectly. </p> <p>Trust me, once you use Swype, you won’t ever want to go back to thunm-texting, well. . .
